Do you see the same general practitioner every time you see a doctor? According to a new report, this could reduce the death rate.
Researchers at the St. Leonard School of Medicine and the Faculty of Medicine at Exeter University in Europe recently published a study published in the BMJ Open. Doctor over time.
To do this, they examined 22 studies from nine countries, including England, France, the United States, Canada, and South Korea. Evaluations explored the badociation between "continuity of care" and death.
After badyzing the results, they found that more than 80% of the subjects had reduced mortality risks, compared to those who changed doctors.
In fact, they found that those who stayed with the same health professional over time were more likely to listen to the advice given to them. They were also more likely to be satisfied and take preventative measures to protect their health, such as being vaccinated.
"While medical technology and new treatments dominate medical news, the human aspect of medical practice has been neglected," said co-author Philip Evans in a statement. "Our study shows that it is potentially life-saving and should be a priority."
STORIES OF TRENDS:
The results were the same between countries and even for different types of specialists, such as surgeons and psychiatrists.
Scientists now hope that their studies will be used by health experts around the world and that organizations are encouraged to help people find the doctor of their choice.
