Tanuja, 75, was admitted to the Lilavati Municipal Hospital.
The actor will be operated on diverticulitis, a disease resulting in inflammation or infection of small pockets called diverticula that develop along the walls of the intestine.
The actress Kajol, Tanuja's daughter, was also seen visiting her at the hospital.
