Half of Winterfell Castle is in ruins, the Dothraki are practically destroyed and our heroes are exhausted. But the good news is that White Walker's threat has apparently disappeared (mainly because Arya Stark paid attention to the killers' school).
Meanwhile, the mad queen Cersei Lannister sits in the red dungeon after the Great War. Assuming the Targaryen-Stark alliance is still strong and Jon Snow gives up his claim to the throne, what are the military forces on both sides?
The Targaryen-Starks
Much of Daenerys Targaryen's forces relied on the hordes of Dothraki. When Daenerys came out of the fire that killed all the Khals in S6E04, she unites with the Khalasar who is sailing with her to Westeros. We saw how much they could be an badet in the S7E04 loot attack.
But in the first half of 'The Long Night', the Dothraki embark on a blind charge against the King's Army at night. In a few seconds, we saw their flames extinguished (Seriously, Jon and Dany are terrible strategists). We could not spot Dothraki runners in promoting episode 4, which leads us to believe that the Dothraki are virtually extinct. The genocide of Dothraki means that nearly 70% of Targaryen forces have left. Dany has already lost one of his most valuable allies – the Tyrell – and only God knows what's going on with Dorne in the series.
We know that Daenerys bought back the 8,000 unsoiled in S3E03 and that they generally survived until the "long night". Suppose the White Walker badault killed about half of the Unsullied. She also lost her fleet during the Casterly Rock attack. In season 8, we see Yara Greyjoy return to the Iron Islands to look for a fleet and in the promo of the next episode, we see ships bearing the seal Targaryen.
An badet that may be useful is the knowledge that Tyrion Lannister and Lord Varys possess of the interest of King's Landing. After BoB, Jon's strengths were reduced to less than half. Bolton's forces suffered more damage when Ramsay dropped his men halfway. Suppose, then, 2,000 northern soldiers, including wildlings, and 2,000 Knights of the Val, under Jon's command.
My general principle of Thumb with the Battle of Winterfell is as follows: Suppose half of all troops perished. That leaves only 2,000 soldiers under the command of Jon Snow. But they have an badet that the Lannisters do not have: Master Assbadin Arya Stark. Think of the devastation she could cause in King's Landing, a city she already knows. Oh, and there's Ghost too. The best of the good wood is also there in the promo.
