What is the one thing that could make the most popular video streaming service an even better experience? Dark mode!
We have seen Apple include a dark mode in the latest version of MacOS Mojave that darkens all elements of a screen to deliver a mostly darker experience. Google has followed suit and responded to calls from the mbades to bring a dark mode to YouTube and did it in the iOS desktop and app theme, but left Android users with an "upcoming" banner. Now, it seems that the dark mode theme is being rolled out on the Android app.
Some users report that a new "Dark theme" option has appeared in the settings and that the official opening of the YouTube app automatically has the design on to use dark mode, so it seems to be enabled by default. The new color scheme is more of a dark gray tone than purely black so is more of an attenuated theme than is generally considered a completely dark mode.
The new option in the settings menu under the General section can just as easily be disabled to turn off the dark theme and return to the usual brighter colors.
Personally, I do not see the new option yet, so the deployment happens as it usually happens with this kind of functionality. Any speculation as to the timescales for this deployment would be purely that
You can of course manually activate the dark theme and pbad the entire deployment provided that you have root access. Switch to XDA which has a complete guide on how to manually turn on the dark mode on the official Android app.
Google did not explain why it took so long to the Android application to get the iOS feature had. Tell us what you think of the new dark mode in the comments below.
