A Global Scientific Conference on Autoimmune Neurology Begins Here Saturday

The highly advanced scientific meeting entitled Indian Committee for Treatment and Research on Multiple Sclerosis – ICTRIMS 2018 will be attended by more than 70 leading and eminent experts Charcot European Foundation, in addition to the largest panel of experts in the field of different states.

The three-day event, hosted by the Indian Academy of Neurology (IAN) and the Kerala Association of Neurologists (KAN), will be held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. The Multiple Sclerosis Society of India (MSSI) is actively involved in the event.

Dr. Satish V. Khadilkar, President-Elect, IAN, will open the conference. Explaining the importance of the meeting, Dr. Suresh Kumar, organizing secretary, said that the goal of ICTRIMS 2018 will be a broad group of autoimmune diseases that affect the central nervous system. Autoimmune diseases are caused by immunity acting against one's own system. The conference will focus on multiple sclerosis, a neurodegenerative autoimmune disease that primarily affects young people, especially women.

Disease incidence in the country is increasing and causes include viral infections, vitamin D deficiency and lifestyle changes. In India, the prevalence of the disease is about 3 to 5 for a lakh population. The disease affects the central nervous system and causes multiple symptoms such as visual impairment, paralysis, bladder problems, cognitive dysfunction and mood changes, said Dr. Suresh Kumar.
