Guys! GUYS! Check it out! While browsing the good old interwebs today, I found two images of the new Triumph Speed Twin that had been leaked and, dude, he 's got it. look good.
Triumph survives the postwar British economy. This new bike looks like what happens when a Bonneville T120 and a Thruxton like it a lot. There was no real information to accompany the pictures, but, as they say, a good picture is worth a thousand words. So let's take a look and see what this whole story is all about.
Nice, is that it? It looks like Triumph has returned to the retro-modern good with this one and, to be honest, I really like it a lot. He looks tall and beefy, broad-shouldered and well-proportioned. Very good as Thruxton, actually. The gaiters and the large round lighthouse give it a sensation very in the middle of the century, while its flat seat, its small turn signals and its raised exhausts give it a touch of modernity.
The Speed Twin's engine is the same as Thruxton's, a 1,200cc, 97 horsepower, water-cooled parallel twin hi-po. The European type of reception documents published at the beginning of the year show that the Speed Twin weighs 20 to 30 pounds less than the big Thruxton, which gives it a fairly respectable weight / power ratio.
The red bike is probably in stock, while the silver bike has spare accessories – saddle, signals, etc. – or is a high-end model. There also seems to be some kind of cache right in front of the "Speed Twin" side cover that hides the EFI, an interesting design feature. Look also at these molded wheels. It's a pretty modern twist in a serene line of bicycles served at the laces.
Sorry for all these badumptions, but that's what we have up to now. I bet we will have all the details at EICMA 2018, so stay tuned. You'll know more as soon as we do it.
