Asus ZenFone 3 Max is the latest smartphone from the Taiwanese company's wallet that receives the Android 8.1 Oreo update. The latest update also brings the ZenUI version up to version 5.0. Notably, the latest Android operating system is being deployed via a FOTA update (firmware on the air). As a reminder, the ZenFone 3 Max was launched in 2016 and it arrived with Android 6.0 Marshmallow, which was the popular Android version at that time. The smartphone then received an update to Android Nougat last year. It's good that Asus still supports the smartphone two years after the launch.

The ZenUI 5.0 update based on Android Oreo for the Asus ZenFone 3 Max (ZC553KL) carries the version number 15.0200.1807.406. The update information, shared by Asus via its Asus ZenTalk forum chain, lists the update of ZenUI 5.0 based on Android 8.1 Oreo in changelog and nothing else. However, you can expect the update to provide a security patch. The deployment schedule mentioned in the changelog is about a week to become available for all handsets. The availability of updates will be notified by push notification. However, users can manually check their arrival by going to Settings> About> System Update. It is worth mentioning that there are two variants of the Asus ZenFone 3 Max – ZC520TL and ZC553KL – but only the latter receives the update.

As for specs, the ZenFone 3 Max (ZC553KL) sports a 5.5-inch full-HD display (1080×1920 pixels) is powered by a SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 1.4 GHz octa-core coupled with 3 GB of RAM LPDDR3. It comes with a 16 megapixel rear camera with an f / 2.0 aperture and a dual LED flash, with the exception of an 8 megapixel front camera with an f / 2.2 aperture and a large lens angle of 84 degrees.

Built-in storage on the ZenFone 3 Max (ZC553KL) can be expanded via a microSD card (up to 128 GB). The smartphone weighs 175 grams and measures 151.4 x 76.24 x 8.3 mm. Connectivity options include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11b / g / n, GPS, Bluetooth v4.1, Micro-USB and FM radio. The phone's sensors include an accelerometer, an ambient light sensor, a gyroscope, a magnetometer and a proximity sensor.

The ZenFone 3 Max contains a large 4100 mAh battery. On the 5.5-inch variant, the battery is expected to provide up to 38 days of 4G standby time, and up to 17 hours of 3G talk time, while the 5.2-inch variant will see the same battery deliver up to 30 days of 4G standby time, and 20 hours of talk time in 3G.
