Dolby Vision is currently being tested for both platforms as part of the upcoming system update

A much needed feature over the years, Microsoft is finally planning to add Dolby Vision support to its Xbox One series. The feature is currently with Xbox Insiders as part of the next update of the 1810 system. It will however be added to the Xbox One S and Xbox One X.

Dolby Vision will be a strong upgrade to the current format HDR10, providing 12-bit color depth support. Once it lands for the consoles above, they will be the only devices with Apple TV 4K and Google Chromecast to support Dolby Vision. Neither the PlayStation 4 nor the PS4 Pro fully support Dolby Vision yet.

Although Netflix will support Dolby Vision on Xbox One S / X, Microsoft has not yet unveiled its plans for the format. So, if you're wondering if Blu-ray is supported, we'll have to wait to find out. Other features of the next system update include the Avatars on the dashboard, the expanding search function to display the games you own (with EA Access and Game Pbad) and many other things.
