While some will still be able to find ways to justify the revolutionary high prices of the iPhone X or Galaxy Note 8, they seem to have started an unfortunate trend. They have proven that some consumers are not so opposed to paying four-digit numbers for the latest and best phones. This may have inspired Sony with its Xperia XZ2 Premium that will be launched in the US next month, carrying such a price that one might wonder if it's worth it.
In spirit, the Xperia XZ2 Premium is premium in every sense of the word, especially in its hardware. You have the staples like a Snapdragon 845 processor, 6 GB of RAM and a 3540 mAh battery. And like other Premium models before him, the Xperia XZ2 Premium boasts of the still rare 4K screen, specifically 3840 × 2160 on a 5.8-inch panel.
But the crowning glory of the Xperia XZ2 Premium is really what's on its back, the first two Sony cameras on a phone. And not any dual camera, but capable of recording HDR 4K videos, which perfectly matches its 4K HDR screen. But wait, there is more! The phone is able to reach ISO levels of 51,200 for photos and 12,800 for videos. With the original 960 fps slow-mo capacity, the Xperia XZ2 Premium definitely shouts high-end features, at least for entertainment and photography.
But does this justify the price tag? After all, Sony phones are renowned for being more expensive than their counterparts and the Japanese consumer electronics giant does not seem at all troubled by the gap. So when it says that the Xperia XZ2 Premium will cost $ 999.99, it's both not surprising but also disappointing for those who want to get their hands on one.
Still, some might be able to afford a Xperia XZ2 Premium and those who do it can pre-order on an Amazon and Best Buy starting July 9th. The full retail business starts much later on July 30, however. If you buy from Amazon, Sony will be thrown into a Xperia Ear Duo headset at no extra charge.
