New Delhi, August 21 (Japan) The Chandrayaan-2 Indian spacecraft entered Tuesday on the orbit of the moon, according to the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO).
The maneuver went as planned, with the on-board propulsion system, the Bengaluru-based agency said in a press release.
ISRO President, Kailasavadivoo Sivan, explained after the crucial operation that seeing Chandrayaan-2 enter the lunar orbit was a relief and a great joy.
Other maneuvers will take place to reach an orbit 100 kilometers above the surface of the Moon.
According to ISRO, Chandrayaan-2, the second Indian lunar expedition, will illuminate a totally unexplored part of the moon, its South Pole. India's first mission to the moon, Chandrayaan-1, took place in 2008.
