Indiana Jones 5 director James Mangold slams Georgia’s new voting law, saying he won’t make a movie in the state.
Logan and Ford vs. Ferrari filmmaker James Mangold, who directs the next Indiana Jones 5, spoke out against Georgia’s new voting law.
SB 202, a 98-page omnibus bill, was passed after Georgia Governor Brian Kemp signed the law on March 25. Twitter, Mangold announced that he was boycotting film productions in the state, saying, “I will not be making a film in Georgia.”

According to Georgia’s new electoral law, voters over 65, disabled, in the military or living abroad can still apply for a postal ballot. However, they can do so no earlier than 11 weeks before an election, instead of 180 days. Georgia counties will also begin mailing mail ballots three weeks later than before, starting four weeks before the election. Mail-in ballots will also have to comply with new rules for confirming the identity of voters and verifying the accuracy of the information they present.

Other changes in the bill include the elimination of mobile polling stations in Fulton County. Counties are also required to schedule two Saturdays for early voting access, with both Sundays optional. Some metropolitan counties were already offering early voting on the four available days, so this will not affect the process in those areas.
Another rule prohibits anyone except election officials from giving water to voters who stand in line and prevents anyone from distributing food and water to voters within 150 feet of a polling station, inside a polling station, or within 25 feet of queuing voters. The second round of voting will also begin “as soon as possible” after a general election and will require an advance vote in person from Monday to Friday before the election. This can prevent counties from allowing early voting on weekends if they are unable to complete the initial election and prepare for the second in the allotted time.
Lucasfilm announced the untitled Indiana Jones 5 in March 2016, with Harrison Ford reprising his famous role of eponymous archaeologist and Steven Spielberg directing for a July 2019 release date. However, the film has been delayed several times since then, with Spielberg stepping down to serve only as executive producer. Mangold reportedly took over as director in February 2020, before Disney confirmed the project during the Disney Investor Day 2020 presentation. During the event, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy revealed Indiana Jones 5 “will conclude the journey of this emblematic character”.
