MINNEAPOLIS – Cal Quantrill gave Cleveland another strong start, and Oscar Mercado, Bobby Bradley and Franmil Reyes scored to help ignite a lagging Indian lineup in a 12-3 win over the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday evening.
Jose Ramirez and Myles Straw each had three of Cleveland’s 14 hits, and Mercado and Bradley each produced three runs. Ramirez had two RBIs to reach 90 for the season for the Indians, who have crossed the plate twice their total in their previous five games combined. They have had 18 hits during that time.
Miguel Sano had the only two hits for Minnesota against Quantrill (6-3), including a three-run homer in the seventh inning that followed two walks. The runner-up to Max Kepler came right after Bradley dropped a bad pop-up in a swirling wind over first base for a mistake, making all runs against Quantrill undeserved.
Sano doubled up in the second inning, before Quantrill struck out 13 straight batters. He finished 6 2/3 innings with three walks and four strikeouts.
Quantrill, the son of former workhorse lifter and 14-year big-league veteran Paul Quantrill, has given Cleveland a big boost to the rotation since leaving his paddock role as a result. of the shoulder injury of AL Cy Young Award winner Shane Bieber.
More than 12 laps since the all-star break, Quantrill went 5-1 with a 1.79 ERA and allowed just 51 hits in 75 1/3 innings.
Twins starter Griffin Jax (3-4) was eliminated by a fifth of four points. Cleveland notched a seventh of five points on the bullpen in the club’s last game in Minnesota as the Indians. They will change their nickname to the Guardians for 2022.

Manager Rocco Baldelli has said he is not yet sure Ryan will take his next turn in the rotation. … RHP Kenta Maeda, after starting his rehabilitation after Tommy John’s elbow surgery, was asked how he was biding his time in Texas after the procedure: “It’s really difficult when you only have one arm to do everything in everyday life” he said through his translator. “Maybe just binge-watching on Netflix and obviously I’ve been following the Twins and how we’re doing.”
