At least 11 people were killed by militant attacks on a government building in eastern Afghanistan.
Authorities announced that 17 other people had been injured during an attack on the complex of the Ministry of Education. Witnesses testified that some of the attackers shot indiscriminately inside the building.
Afghan security forces came shortly after the attack. They circled the office complex and rescued 20 people before the end of the four-hour attack. Nobody claimed responsibility for the attack until the news was revealed.
This is the second deadly attack against Jalalabad in recent days. According to testimonies, 12 people were killed after a suicide bomber blew himself up at a security checkpoint on Tuesday (10/07). The ISKP – branch of the Islamic State in Khorasan Province, Afghanistan – claimed responsibility for the attack.
ISKP also claimed suicide bombings in the high security area of Jalalabad that killed 19 people, mostly members of the minority Sikh community.
