NANGARHAR – Suicide bomb attacks target Afghan and Hindu minority groups in the eastern province of Nangarhar, killing at least 15 people and wounding 20 others. There is no party responsible for the brutal attack.
Nangarhar police chief, General Ghulam Sanayee, said the attack took place as the victims were traveling to the governor's office in the provincial capital Jalalabad Sunday afternoon to meet with President Ashraf Ghani who visited the city.
Nobody immediately claimed responsibility for the Nangarhar bombing, where Taliban insurgents and Islamic State militants are active there.
The attack came a few hours after officials confirmed that militants suspected of being members of the Islamic State had beheaded three security guards in a government school and burned some school buildings in the district. Khogyani, Nangarhar. libraries and administrative offices of high school students in Malikyar were set on fire.
No one claimed responsibility for the attack, although the provincial government authorities accused the Islamic State group of being behind the incident.
The Islamic State's branch in Afghanistan, known as the Khorasan Province, often organizes suicide attacks and decapitates those whom they accuse of working for the Nangarhar government, which borders on the Pakistan.
ISIS claimed responsibility for two suicide bombings in Nangarhar during Eid celebrations last month. The attack killed nearly 50 people and injured more than 130 others.
Afghan authorities estimate that about 2,000 ISIS militants remain active in the country, mainly in Nangarhar, Kunar and Nuristan in the east, and Jowzjan in the north, near the border. with the countries of Central Asia.
