"With the improvement of the system, in 2017, the number of Indonesian publications reached 18,500, surpbading Thailand with 16,800 publications beyond Singapore," he said.
In addition to scientific publications, Nasir argued that Indonesia's competitiveness index was still low. Referring to the 2017 Global Competitiveness Index (CGI) Index data, Indonesia's competitiveness is still 36 out of 137 countries, far behind Singapore's 3, Malaysia's 23rd and Thailand's 32nd.
"The poor competitiveness of this nation is bad and the quality of the graduates and the resulting skills are lower than those of the neighboring countries," said Nasir.
