Open line to evacuate people in need of medical care
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, GAZA – The Egyptian government reopened the Rafah border with the Gaza Strip on Monday (2/7). This is done to help evacuate Palestinians from Gaza who are in urgent need of medical care and care.
The official Egyptian news agency, MENA, reports the opening of the border between Rafah and Gaza led by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. The path is open in both directions to allow medical patients in Gaza to be removed and receive care abroad.
MENA did not mention how long the border roads of Rafah and Gaza would be open. During Ramadan, the Egyptian authorities decided to open a crossing road between Gaza and Rafah.
Gaza is an area blocked by Israel and Egypt. The blockade lasted 11 years and caused the paralysis of living conditions and the economy.
Not only isolated from the outside world, Gazans only benefit from electricity for four hours a day. This is because the region depends on electricity supplied by Israel and Egypt. In Gaza itself, there is a power station. But to function, it needs abundant fuel oil
The lack of electricity supply makes it difficult for the economic activity of the citizens. This has also affected the operation of medical facilities and services.
Since the end of March, the situation in the Gaza Strip has also been raging. Thousands of Palestinians have come down to the border to criticize the US decision to open an Israeli embbady in Jerusalem. They also demanded that Israel restore the villages that it now controls after the 1948 Arab-Israeli war to Palestinian refugees.
During the two months of the campaign, at least 120 Palestinians were killed by Israeli security forces shot dead. Meanwhile, thousands of others were injured.
