This year, Pitana said, the ministry has three main goals: digital tourism, the development of village tourism programs and the creation of better access to air travel.

In 2019, the Ministry of Tourism set targets to bring Indonesia into the top 30 countries in the world (up 12 ranks) among the 141 countries in the Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Index (TTCI) of the World Economic Forum.

"By getting a position above the 30th rank, we will receive global recognition as a major destination in the world.Tourism is intended to be the backbone of the Indonesian economy" said Pitana.
