Expert: A flight attendant more vulnerable to cancer than ordinary people

The project is called Harvard Attendant Health Study (FAHS). They collected medical data from 5,366 flight attendants in 2017. This study uses 2014-2015 survey data and compares them with the health outcomes of 2,729 controls. The subjects studied were also matched with socio-economic status.

Among female crew members, bad cancer rates were 3.4 percent on the temporary flight crew of 2.3 percent in the general population; uterine cancer 0.15 vs 0.13; uterine cervix cancer 1.0 vs 0.70; gastrointestinal cancer 0.47 vs. 0.27; and thyroid cancer 0.67 versus 0.56. While among male flight attendants, the team found a higher melanoma cancer rate of 1.2 versus 0.69 percent; "Our study is one of the largest and most comprehensive cancer studies ever conducted to date among cabin crews and we have mapped a wide range of cancers," said Dr. Irina Mordukhovich. "

" This is surprising given the low levels of excess weight and smoking in this task force.

Of course, this study was able to establish only correlations and not causes and effects. But just open your eyes as this job is more risky than we imagine.
