[TOKYO] Japan and the European Union (EU) on Tuesday signed a free trade pact to deal with US trade war policy. The pact, signed in Tokyo, will eliminate almost all tariffs on products traded between Japan and the EU. "The European Union and Japan are showing the determination to lead the world to the helm of free trade," said Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. a joint press conference with European Council President Donald Tusk and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker in Tokyo on Tuesday.

According to Abe, the trade agreement covers one third of the world economy and more than 600 million people. With this agreement, Japan will reduce the price of entry fees for European wine, pork, handbags and medicines.

The President of the European Council Donald Tusk hailed the treaty as the most important trade agreement ever concluded. Mr Tusk hailed the agreement as "the most important bilateral trade agreement ever concluded". In addition to trade, he added, cooperation between the two sides will be strengthened in other areas, including defense, climate change and human resource exchanges
