Yaya Adisa Olaitan Olaniran (Representative of Nigeria to the United Nations in Rome) and nine other delegates from FAO during a visit to the Veterinary Center of Yogyakarta Wates (BBVet) (02/11) congratulated the IVM Online. Since its launch in 2014, it has had a significant impact on the efforts to control and manage the disease of AI.

The visit was carried out in several cities of Indonesia to see the development of agricultural projects resulting from the collaboration of FAO with Indonesia. The Integrated Vector Management Program is a collaboration between the Indonesian government and FAO-OFFLU to improve virus surveillance and evolution systems and the early detection of new variants of the bird flu virus in Indonesia. As part of this activity, Indonesia has been supported by OIE Reference Laboratories, such as the Australian Animal Health Laboratory (AAHL).

"This example of Indonesia IVM network is relevant for other countries wishing to create laboratory networks for molecular monitoring of AI and other infectious diseases (pathogens)" Yaya said. "This fits into the FAO Regional Strategic Framework / Strengthening Laboratory Capacity," he added.

Boethdy Angkasa, head of the Animal Disease Surveillance Directorate at the Animal Health Directorate General of the PKH Branch, said that MIV online users would easily discover the position of the viruses in the country. And AI would report them promptly and accurately to decision makers. Thus, the development of highly pathogenic avian influenza viruses in all areas of Indonesia can be monitored so that it can help determine rapid and accurate strategies for controlling and eradicating AI.

According to him, the implementation of the IVM Online program is a strategic step to be able to easily and quickly monitor the evolution of circulating avian influenza viruses and to detect new variants of the virus. "This will certainly help us to put in place other control measures, such as determining the type of new vaccine and antigens for diagnosis," said Boethdy Angkasa.

In addition, Boethdy added that, thanks to the IVM Online app, if a mutation of the avian influenza virus occurred, it could be detected quickly. Efforts could therefore be made immediately to produce a vaccine suitable for preventing the spread of the disease. Boethdy revealed that the operation of IVM Online had been integrated with the National Animal Health Information System (iSIKHNAS) for initial data and isolates. "IVM Online has been supported by about 40 IVM Online members who meet, share information and train," he said.

Currently, IVM Online has eight (8) diagnostic laboratories (BBVET Veterinary Center and Veterinary Hall / BVET), Center for Quality Control and Certification of Veterinary Medicinal Products (BBPMSOH), Pusvetma, BBLITVET and Higher Education (FKH-UNAIR). BBV and Wates as the focal point of control for the activities of IVM Online has also been named National Veterinary Reference Laboratory for Avian Influenza in Indonesia.

On the same occasion, the head of the Wates Veterinary Center, Bagoes Poermadjaja, said that the laboratory he was managing had become a national reference laboratory for AI, antrax and livestock diseases. caused by Salmonella (salmonellosis) and mad cow disease (BSE). BBVet Wates, which is a technical implementation unit under the General Directorate of PKH, was also accredited to ISO 17025 in 2004 and ISO 9001 in 2010, with a work area covering 3 provinces, namely East Java, Central Java and Yogyakarta Yogyakarta.

"We are always striving to provide the best service, through veterinary investigations and testing, and the development of accredited laboratory techniques, so as to support efforts to control and control animal diseases in Indonesia" said Bagoes Poermadja.

According to him, Indonesia is currently submitting to the OIE the veterinary reference laboratory of the Asia-Pacific region for the test of avian influenza. "To increase the capacity of the BBVEt Wates laboratory, we are also collaborating with the Australian Animal Health Laboratory (AAHL) as part of a collaborative program between two laboratories (OIE Laboratory Twinning Program)" he concluded.
