Continuing the results of the 32nd session of the General Assembly of the Secretariat of the International Coral Reef Initiative (ICRI) in Nairobi, Kenya, from 7 to 9 December 2017, Indonesia will be part of of the ICRI Secretariat with Monaco and Australia. The transfer will take place in Paris, France, Wednesday (4/7) tomorrow.
At the December hearing, Monaco and Australia agreed to be the co-chair of the next ICRI Secretariat and to add the following: other countries as an alliance of the Joint Chief of the ICRI Secretariat.
Monaco and Australia have approached and expect from Indonesia that she is participating in the management of the ICRI Secretariat.
Minister Susi mentioned her presence in the activity as a form of Indonesia's engagement as Co-Chair of ICRI. According to him, the problem of coral reefs has indeed become one of Indonesia's top priorities, as Indonesia has the extensive and varied coral reefs that have great influence in regional and global scale.
"We therefore hope that Indonesia will be able to integrate programs more easily into the implementation of the UNEA resolution on coral reef management, as Indonesia is the only country in the world. initiator, "said Minister Susi in a statement received Tuesday 7/3.
He felt that this possibility can also be used to encourage the existence of a special convention of coral reefs.
In addition, this also opens opportunities for Indonesian leaders at the regional level through the Coral Reef Coral Reef Initiative, Fisheries and Food Security (CTI-CFF) including Malaysia, Papua New Guinea Guinea, the Philippines, the Solomon Islands and Timor Leste.

Indonesia will participate in the joint presidency of ICRI during the period 2018-2020. For information, ICRI is an informal global partnership of countries and organizations concerned with protecting coral reefs and related ecosystems worldwide.
ICRI was founded by eight countries: Australia, France, Japan, Jamaica, Philippines, Sweden, England, and the United States. ICRI decisions do not bind members (decisions that do not bind members).
Although they are not binding, the results and actions of the ICRI play an important role in global decisions about the importance of coral reefs, the environment and sustainable , food security and culture.
Currently, ICRI has 38 member countries, including Indonesia, 7 international and multilateral organizations, 6 regional organizations and 21 scientific and non-governmental organizations.
