Oman wants Israel to be treated in the same way as other countries.
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MANAMA – Oman describes Israel as an accepted country in the Middle East Saturday (10/28). Oman's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yousuf bin Alawi, bin Abdullah, offered to help Israelis and Palestinians work together, without mediating.
"Israel is currently a country in the region and we all understand it, and the whole world is also aware of this fact, perhaps it is time for Israel to be treated on an equal footing." (with other countries) and that it badumes the same obligations, "Yousuf told participants at a Bahraini security summit.
His comments came after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's rare visit to Oman, just days after Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas visited the Gulf State. The two leaders met with Sultan Qaboos of Oman.
"We are not saying that the road is now easy and decorated with flowers, but our priority is to end the conflict and head to a new world," Yousuf said.
Oman is counting on the efforts of the United States and President Donald Trump to reach a peace deal with the Middle East. Bahrain's Foreign Minister Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa expressed his support for Oman for the role of the Sultanate in an effort to achieve Israeli-Palestinian peace. Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir said the kingdom believed that the key to normalizing relations with Israel was the peace process.
Saudi Arabia and Bahrain attended the three-day summit. US Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis and his Italian and German colleagues also participated. King Abdullah of Jordan canceled his arrival after the flood, which killed 21 people in the Dead Sea region.
Trump's envoy to the Middle East, Jason Greenblatt, praised the warm relations and increased cooperation between our friends in the region. "This is a useful step for our peace efforts and it is important to create an atmosphere of stability, security and prosperity between Israel, Palestine and neighboring countries. (We) hope that there will be more meetings like this, "said Friday (10/27). )
