Noncommunicable diseases in Indonesia are increasing

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The results of the 2018 core health research revealed an increase in the number of noncommunicable diseases in Indonesia compared to 2013. According to Riskesdas data from 2018 released on Friday ( 2/11), in Jakarta, people with cancer, one, chronic kidney, diabetes and hypertension have increased significantly.

Compared to the results of research conducted in 2013, the prevalence of cancer increased from 1.4% to 1.8%, that of patients with stroke from 7% to 10.9%, while renal failure chronicle increased from 2% to 3.8%. Although based on glycemic controls, diabetes mellitus increased from 6.9% to 8.5%. Blood pressure measurement results showed that hypertension increased from 25.8% to 34.1%.

The increase in the prevalence of noncommunicable diseases is related to lifestyle, including the number of smokers, alcohol consumption, physical activity, and the consumption of fruits and vegetables. .

Since 2013, the prevalence of smoking among adolescents aged 10 to 18 has continued to increase, from 7.2% (Riskesdas 2013), 8.8% (2016 National Survey of Health Indicators) and further increased by 9.1% (Riskesdas 2018). Data on the proportion of consumption of alcoholic beverages also increased from 3% to 3.3%. Similarly, the proportion of less active physical activity fell from 26.1% to 33.5% and 0.8% to the excessive consumption of alcoholic beverages.

Another thing is that the proportion of fruit and vegetable consumption among people over five is still very problematic. That's 95.5%.
