Jakarta, CNN Indonesia – Government will ensure that Indonesia is not discriminated against European Union (EU) on restrictions on imports Palm oil in the Renewable Energy Directive II / RED II.
Earlier, the EU has postponed restrictions on palm oil imports from 2021 to 2030.
The Director General of Foreign Trade at the Ministry of Commerce, Oke Nurwan, said that Indonesia wants to ensure that EU import restrictions by 2030 relate to not only palm oil but also vegetable oils in general.
"He led the Minister (Coordinating Minister of the Ministry of Maritime Affairs) Luhut Binsar Panjaitan) do not leave palm oil, but its nature should be non-discriminatory, it means for all vegetable oils, "said Oke after attending a meeting at the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Thursday (28/6) .
In addition, Indonesia should also ensure that the allowed import criteria are also non-discriminatory with respect to palm oil. For example, linked to the criteria of high conservation value (HCV), biodiversity and high carbon stock (HCS).
"We (Indonesia) therefore remain cautious and we agree to get involved in the study soon and we will discuss again who will be involved in the preparation or study they are doing (EU)," he said. Oke said.
On retaliation efforts, Oke said the government was no longer discussing retaliatory plans by imposing import duties on a number of blue continental products. Because, from a normative point of view, the EU has postponed the restrictions on palm oil imports from 2021 to 2030.
"The first step, we can make sure that whenever there is discrimination, we are doing it normatively that we are invalid. Will it be retaliation or what, that's another story," he said.
Based on data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), last year, Indonesia exported palm oil to 19 countries of the European Union, for a value total exports of US $ 2.89 billion. The value equals 14.21% of the total value of Indonesia's exports, which reached 20.34 billion US dollars.
