The South Sudanese people experience suffering and cruelty due to conflict.
The UN Security Council on Friday issued a resolution to impose an arms embargo on South Sudan (13/7). The move was made in response to ongoing ethnic violence and violence in the country.
The resolution of this arms embargo has been proposed by the United States. Of the 15 member states of the United Nations Security Council, nine countries supported the resolution. While six other countries, namely Russia, China, Ethiopia, Equatorial Guinea, Kazakhstan and Bolivia, have chosen to abstain.
United States Ambbadador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley, estimates that an arms embargo should be applied against South Sudan. "The people of South Sudan have suffered unimaginable suffering and indescribable cruelty.Clbadified weapons are a measure to protect civilians and help stop violence," he said, quoted on page Anadolu Agency .
In addition to the arms embargo, the UN Security Council resolution also imposes travel restrictions and badet freezes on South Sudan's deputy chief of defense, Malek Reuben Riak Rengu. He is considered the person responsible for ethnic violence and violence in the country.
South Sudan is the youngest country in the world. This country was formed only in 2011. But since 2013, the conflict has hit the country.
As for the warring parties, it is the forces loyal to the President of South Sudan, Salva Kiir, and the loyalists of Riek Machar. Machar is a former vice president of Kiir. In 2015, a peace agreement was reached, but it still fails to stop the violence.
Ongoing peace talks to end confrontation and violence are under way in Khartoum. The results of the discussions should be announced in the coming days.
