INDIANAPOLIS (Wish) – Temporary changes are on their way to over a dozen IndyGo bus schedules.
IndyGo says these temporary changes will affect 15 bus lines. IndyGo said it hopes the small changes from October 10 will mean more reliable service.
Ronika Gillespie relies on IndyGo – she takes the bus pretty much every day. “It’s pretty important, especially when you have to go where you have to go. If IndyGo weren’t there, I probably wouldn’t be able to travel that much to Indianapolis.
The reason for the change? “Unprecedented staffing challenges” caused by the pandemic, says IndyGo.
Some are Gillespie walking routes. According to IndyGo, the affected routes are 2, 4, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 18, 21, 24, 25, 28, 30, 31 and 86.
“It saddens me because when the buses change it disrupts the schedules of a lot of people, especially the daily routines,” Gillespie said.
Among the changes, the frequency of the No. 2 line, which runs through 16th Street and Central Avenue, and the No. 86 bus will be reduced from 30 minutes to an hour from Monday to Saturday.
Bus lines 12 and 13 will change from one hour to two hours on weekdays.
All other affected routes will maintain current frequencies throughout the day, with no high frequencies during morning and evening rush hours.
According to IndyGo,
- Routes 2 and 86 will change from a 30-minute frequency to a 1-hour frequency Monday through Saturday.
- Routes 12 and 13 will change from one hour to two hours from Monday to Friday.
- All of the other routes listed above will maintain their current frequency throughout the day without high frequency service during peak hours between 6 am-9am and 3 pm-6pm.
“It’s like that. I can’t fight it. There’s nothing I can do about it,” bus driver Melissa Allison told News 8.
Bus driver Michael Stewart said the temporary changes in bus schedules didn’t bother him. “If they change them temporarily, then let’s try. We have to take risks. There is nothing wrong with something new.
