Injuries to two starters; Power shines in the opener

A few headlines have appeared in the world of Buffalo Sabers in the last 24 hours. Two of Buffalo’s best players will miss their preseason finals this afternoon. But in better news, the Sabers’ number one pick Owen Power shone in his season opener at the University of Michigan.

The Buffalo Sabers will play their final preseason game this afternoon at home against the Detroit Red Wings at 3 p.m. ET. This final pre-season game will serve as the final tune-up before the regular season begins for Buffalo on Thursday, October 14 against the Montreal Canadiens.

However, the Sabers will not have access to all of their starters today. Rasmus Dahlin and Victor Olofsson won’t be available for Buffalo’s final preseason game as they both suffer from a soft tissue injury. But Dahlin and Olofsson are expected to be back in training on Monday. They are therefore not in doubt for the opening night, which is now just under a week away.

Owen Power will be welcome when he makes his NHL debut in Buffalo, especially if he’s patrolling the blue line with Dahlin. But Sabers fans will have to wait a year until then. For now, Power will dominate the college hockey world at the University of Michigan. Power had his first game of the season last night against Lake Superior State, and he didn’t disappoint.

Power had three assists and one goal for a total of four points in the game. He had all three assists in the first period and his goal was scored in the third period on a shot from the blue line to give the University of Michigan a 6-1 lead.

While it’s a little disappointing that Sabers fans can’t see Owen Power in the blue and gold this season, he will certainly be worth the wait and be a centerpiece of the youth movement in Buffalo for coming years .
