Inmates at a St. Louis jail revolted on Saturday morning over various concerns, setting fire and throwing debris in the street below as correctional officers worked nearly eight hours to end the group “Extremely violent”.
The riot at the Saint-Louis city justice center ended shortly before 10 a.m., but only after prisoners spent hours throwing in a stationary bicycle, chairs, mattresses and other items in the streets below, some objects on fire.
Dozens of people gathered to witness the riot and the efforts to contain it. Flames could also be seen just inside the windows.

Corrections officers used tear gas to regain control and returned the 115 inmates involved in the riot to custody.
Detainees claimed they were fed up with conditions during the coronavirus pandemic, as well as a series of restrictions that limited visits and blocked court proceedings, officials said.

The correctional facility is located on the fourth floor of the Justice Center, with only glass windows facing the city street and no additional fencing or barriers around the building.
