Instagram has created a richer story interface for desktops

Instagram makes its Stories feature more complete on the desktop. As part of a small interface refresh today, the company is updating its Stories feature so that it opens to display a carousel of videos, which showcases the following and the content that comes from be read. From this interface, viewers can click on the story they wish to watch. It’s kind of like the tiny circles at the top of user feeds get bigger and full screen.

This is a minor change, but it complements the office functionality and makes it more appealing to use, especially since people are on their computers more frequently when working from home. For the most part, Instagram has left the stories unchanged for years. The format is the same as usual, the messages being ephemeral.

Most of Instagram’s format changes come in the form of creative tools like stickers for small businesses and new fonts. For now, Instagram is firmly focused on Reels, its competitor TikTok, with Stories receiving small updates to keep it up to date.
