Instagram kills its standalone direct messaging application

In the coming month, you will no longer be able to slip into another user's account via the Direct app for Instagram.

It seems that the social media giant sharing photos cuts support for the Direct app "in the coming months". However, all the important messages you pass on to your friends via the magic of Instagram do not go away for good – they just go to the dedicated Instagram app.

Spotted by social media commentator Matt Navarra and a few fans of the Play Store, users are now greeted by a message telling them that the Direct app for Instagram is simply telling them "it's gone ".

That seems like a very good way to say it, Instagram.

Direct was unveiled originally on December 7, 2017 as the first camera application, which looked a lot like Snapchat. This test extended to Chile, Israel, Italy, Portugal, Turkey and Uruguay with details of insufficient global diffusion. At that time, a company spokesman told The Verge "Instagram's direct services have grown over the past four years, but we can make it even better if it's self-sustaining."

Now, it seems that Direct left, even before he really lived, but the reasons for the reversal are not immediately clear. Direct for Instagram seems to follow the same trajectory as Messenger, which Facebook's parent company left the Facebook application in 2014.
