Instagram’s new “ Suggested Posts ” feature will let you scroll forever

As if Instagram weren’t addicting enough already, the company is adding a new feature meant to let you scroll through your feed even longer. Starting today, Instagram will load ‘Suggested Posts’ at the end of your feed, once you’re all up to date with updates from friends and other accounts you follow.

Normally, when you get to the end of your feed, Instagram will just display a “ You’re all caught up! ” message and allows you to view older messages. Instead, after said post, you’ll now see post suggestions from other default accounts – including ads, of course.

Fortunately, you can still view older messages with just the press of a button – you’ll see the option right under the caught message. You can also tell Instagram that you’re not interested in a suggested post by tapping the three-dot menu and selecting “ not interested ”; this will tell the algorithm that it has some tweaking to make. Unfortunately, you can’t completely turn off suggested posts – they’re here to stay.

As Engadget pointed out, the functionality seems to be reminiscent of how TikTok works; it’s a simple way to retain users and find new accounts. Instagram also has the Explore tab for these purposes, but I personally never visit this hub. The new feature could in theory be more transparent – or insidious, depending on your perspective.
