The Intel Core i5 Rocket Lake processors, which include the Core i5-11600KF and Core i5-11400F 6 Core chips, were compared and their performance results were disclosed on the Chinese Chip Forums (via Harukaze5719). Intel Core i5 Rocket Lake processors will be the choice of mainstream gamers. The processors will compete with the AMD Ryzen 5 line which also includes 6 cores and 12 threads and has the 5600X and 5600 as its main competitors. Here are the detailed specifications of the two processors.

Rocket Lake 6-Core 12-Thread Intel Core i5-11600KF Desktop Processor

The Intel Core i5-11600K is a 6-core chip with 12 threads. The processor should measure up against the AMD Ryzen 5 5600X which is a phenomenal processor in its own right. The Core i5-11600K is said to have a clock speed of 4.9 GHz on one and 4.6 GHz on all cores. Note that TVB will not be available on SKUs lower than the Core i9 models, so we shouldn’t expect an extended frequency limit on the Core i7 and Core i5 SKUs. The chip will have 12MB of L3 cache and 3MB of L2 cache.

Now, the main testing ground for this chip against the AMD Ryzen 5 5600X will be its performance against its price. The Ryzen 5 5600X with an MSRP of US $ 299 is slightly higher in terms of price when we compare it to its predecessor. The Core i5-11600K, meanwhile, will replace the Core i5-10600K which has a retail price of around US $ 260.

If Intel sticks to its existing pricing strategy, the Core i5-11600K could indeed become a hot-selling chip in the mainstream gaming market. Having said that, we also need to take into account the availability of the Core i5-11600K. Technically, consumer SKUs aren’t much affected by supply issues, as is the case with the Ryzen 5 5600X, but a small backlog in stock could cause Intel to miss an opportunity to build a breach in AMD’s Ryzen 5 segment. The Intel Core i5-11400F is a locked, non-K 11th Generation Rocket Lake desktop processor. Intel won’t be moving away from locked-down chips anytime soon, as this will swallow up sales of their K-series SKUs. The Core i5-11400 as such will be a 6-core, 12-thread chip with a core configuration similar to that of the Core i5-11600K but lower clock speeds of 4.4 GHz (1-core boost) and 4.2 GHz (all-core boost) for the Core i5-11400.

The chip will have a standard power limit of 65W PL1 and 125W PL2. While the processor does not technically support overclocking, motherboard vendors will incorporate BIOS and features to increase non-K SKU power limits for Rocket Lake chips. This would give a higher base and more stable boost frequencies. So overall, you will get similar performance to K-series SKUs at a lower price.

Performance benchmarks for Intel Core i5-11600KF and Core i5-11400F Rocket Lake 6 Core processors

The Intel Core i5-11600KF and Core i5-11400F processors lack integrated graphics and therefore carry the “F” label. For testing, the tester used the Gigabyte Z490 AORUS Ultra motherboard with the latest BIOS, a 16 GB memory kit consisting of DIMMs rated at DDR4-3600 (CL17-19-19-39) and a liquid cooler 360mm AIO with 350W power cooling capacity. The cooler should be enough to handle both chips since the Core i5-11600KF peaks with a PL2 rating of around 220-225W. The benchmarks can be seen below:

Regarding power and temperatures, the tester also tested the two Intel Rocket Lake Desktop processors in AIDA64. The Core i5-11600KF peaked at 210W with a reported maximum temperature of 85 ° C, while the Core i5-11400 peaked at 145W with a reported maximum temperature of 70 ° C. The tester also tried to ‘overclock the Core i5-11600KF, but the BIOS or chip (sample ES) was not stable and could only handle 4.8GHz at 1.325V resulting in higher temperatures and power consumption.

In addition to these tests, YouTuber, Tobi’s hardware corner, simulated the performance of the Core i5-11600K but by disabling two cores on its Intel Core i7-11700K processor. The Core i7 still has a larger cache than the Core i5-11600K, but it gives you a good look at the Core i5-11600K compared to an AMD Ryzen 5 5600X processor. Intel Rocket Lake Desktop processors will launch on March 30, but pre-orders will open on March 16. Note that reviews of the chip will also not be released until March 30.
