INDIANAPOLIS (Inside INdiana Business) – The International Marketplace Coalition has cut the ribbon for the new Global Village Welcome Center in Indianapolis. The 56,000-square-foot Cultural Center, which serves as the anchor for the 2.5-mile area on the northwest side of the city that is home to more than 90 businesses and more than 115 restaurants.
The coalition says the visitor center includes galleries representing all inhabited continents, a reception hall, gift shop and other functional spaces. In an interview earlier this month on Inside INdiana Business with Gerry Dick, Mary Clark, executive director of the International Marketplace Coalition, said the center serves as a place where everyone can come and meet.
“It’s a museum that celebrates all cultures and the wonderful thing I think about this museum is that about 99% of the artifacts we have here have been donated by people all over the world,” Clark said. . “When people walk through our doors now their eyes light up and if they can’t see each other – I can almost promise the person – a day, two or three days later, we get things from other parties. of the globe that represents those people who now inhabit Indy.
The International Marketplace is located in the old district of Lafayette Square. Clark says the market also serves as a tool for the city to attract and retain businesses in Indy.
“It’s a piece that shows Indianapolis, Indiana, is a welcoming state, a place where everyone can find their home,” she said. “If you don’t see yourself here in this neighborhood, you’re not looking too hard because we’re all here.
