iOS 13 allows you to send unknown callers directly to voicemail

In the Phone section of the Settings application in iOS 13, there is a new interesting flip-flop called "Silence Unknown Callers" (Silence Unknown Callers), which seems to do exactly what its name suggests. When this feature is turned on, calls received by people not in your contact list appear to be sent directly to voicemail.

We tested the Silence Unknown Callers feature this week and it worked well. When an iPhone with the option enabled received a call from an unknown number in contacts, the phone never rang – the call was directly sent to voicemail.

Although we did not do extensive testing, we tried to introduce an unknown number by referencing it in an email because iOS recognizes phone numbers that way. However, even when the number was sent to us, muted.

Unknown Silence Callers seem to be an effective way to limit incoming calls to numbers you already know, preventing the rest from ringing your phone.

This is a simple and useful solution to the flood of spam calls that many of us in the United States receive daily. It is not a matter of specifically identifying spam calls or numbers at risk, so this is not the most elegant solution available, but it reduces the number of calls. unwanted calls.

This is not a setting you will want to activate if you are afraid of missing legitimate calls from numbers that you do not know, but all calls are sent to voicemail, so when a legitimate call arrives, you can simply call back the person.

Silence Unknown Callers will be available to everyone this fall when iOS 13 launches alongside new iPhones.
