The body of a student was recovered Sunday in Little Wall Lake by a diving team, according to a press release from the university.

The dive team searched for the other missing student but had to cancel recovery efforts overnight. They will resume the search in the morning, according to the statement.

Emergency Communications received a call about the capsized boat around 9:30 a.m. Sunday, Hamilton County Sheriff Doug Timmons told CNN affiliate KCCI at a press conference.

Timmons said several residents who live near the lake sprang into action, saving some of the boaters.

“We had heroes among the people who live in the houses here,” the sheriff said. “There are people who took risks they didn’t have to take and who saved lives.”

Three of the five students who were rescued from the water were treated and released from Mary Greeley Medical Center, the college statement said.

Although there were high winds at the time of the call, Timmons said, the investigation into the cause of the capsizing of the boat is still ongoing.

The university and the sheriff’s office said they are not disclosing the names of the students involved at this time.

“The community in the state of Iowa is heartbroken to learn of this tragic accident at Little Wall Lake,” Iowa State University president Wendy Wintersteen said in the statement. “Right now we are focused on supporting club members, their families and friends. We ask everyone to keep them in their thoughts during this very difficult time.”
