Luka Modric got the better of Jordan Henderson in Croatia's 2-1 win against England last night, Jack Watson of the Independent.
Henderson was influential in the march of the Three Lions to England. The semifinals were replaced by Eric Dier during overtime, with Watson noticing Modric's growing influence over the match.
"His time on the ball has gone up and with that the number of chances that Croatia has created." Henderson had been so quick to close the space in the midfield but Modric had begun orchestrating the game at a level that left the England midfielder a mere spectator.
"In overtime, Southgate had seen enough. Henderson makes way for Dier who was introduced to refresh the England midfielder after he was loosely hobbled full time. "
Watson, however, believes that the heroism of England would not have been possible without the heroism of Henderson. This team could never get the appreciation that She deserved, and perhaps rightly so, because the success of England is entirely due to the performance of the team.
"But make no mistake, the race of the England, which ended in the semi-finals, may not have been Henderson's vital role in the Southgate system that ultimately gave back an identity to England.
