Mattie Kenny has been appointed director of Dublin for a three-year term

Mattie Kenny, who has won two victories in Ireland, was replaced by Pat Gilroy as head of Dublin's senior division.

After talks late last week, the county selection committee chose the man from Tynagh-Abbey Duniry to fill the vacancy left by Gilroy after a season due to professional commitments.

Kenny was in the running for the role last year prior to Gilroy 's nomination.

After guiding Cuala to a second consecutive Tommy Moore Cup last March, Kenny was nominated for a three-year term on Saturday and is expected to have a teammate from Galway and Dublin on his management team.

It is thought that Kenny was favored over Anthony Cunningham, the outgoing coach from Dublin, with whom he worked as a selector at Galway in 2012 and '13.

Kenny had been eagerly sought after in recent months. Waterford, one of the counties that had contacted him.

However, it was unable to fully engage because of the shuttle between East Galway and the Carriganore Deise training base.

Naturally, Kenny's time with the Dalkey band is now over and they congratulated him for his appointment on Twitter on Saturday.

Recognized for its strong organizational and tactical skills, the selection committee's decision was largely supported by Dublin's pitching circles.

Kenny, 54, has not only guided Cuala to two All-Ireland titles, three Leinster and county championships, but has also been involved in three U21 All-Ireland Galway Formations.

Kenny will be operational with his new charges on December 9 when they open their Walsh Cup campaign in Carlow.

Their first match in Division 1B is also against Carlow at home on Jan. 26, while they will face Kilkenny at Nowlan Park on May 11 or 12 in the Leinster Championship.

Due to a tragic mourning, the quarterfinal of the Clonkill-Ballyboden St Enda Leinster Club has been postponed until tomorrow night at Parnell Park.
