Speaking before the game, Keane, who was Miller's captain at Old Trafford, said he was "delighted" to be part of the tribute game for someone who played for "club and country ".

"Liam unfortunately died last February but he remains one of our teammates and this tribute is an opportunity to celebrate his career in the field but also to remember the man that he was far from football, "he said.

The proceeds of the match and a subsequent gala dinner will help Miller Clare's widow and their three children, and Marymount Hospice, where he died.
