Altered Carbon is undergoing major revision for season 2 – but this is not necessarily a bad thing!
The science fiction drama officially received its second renewal of season on Friday, and that is with the announcement that Avengers star Anthony Mackie will take over from Takeshi Kovacs! In addition to Mackie replacing original star Joel Kinnaman, season 2 will also find Alison Schapker of Fringe joins the series as a co-showrunner alongside Laeta Kalogridis.
Kinnaman had confirmed shortly after the first season he would not be coming back for season 2, but honestly, this announcement was not really a surprise. Given the nature of the universe of Altered Carbon – in which people simply receive new bodies, or "sleeves", when they die – and the fact that season 1 ends with Kovacs giving up his current sleeve, we knew that the redesign was coming. This role marks Mackie's first big concert, which is why this casting is so exciting.
