Camila Cabello was the big winner on Sunday at the MTV EMAs in Bilbao, Spain, winning a quartet of prizes, including Best Artist. Nicki Minaj also had a good night, winning many awards, as she herself, Muse and Janet Jackson were among the stars of the show.
Cabello won the best song and video for "Havana" and the best American and world act. Minaj won two awards: best hip hop and best look.
In an evening that put female artists first, Minaj and the winners of Little Act, UK and Ireland Act sang "Women Like Me". Global Icon Award winner Janet Jackson and host Hailee Steinfeld also played. As a nod to his upcoming film, "Bumblebee", the latter interpreted the soundtrack of the film "Back to Life" from inside a yellow "car" made up of more than 20 people leaning and writhing to take the form of a vehicle.
A Spanish artist inspired by modern flamenco, Rosalía, came on stage in a gigantic truck and sang "Malamente".
Shawn Mendes, a double winner last year, won the Best Live Award. Dua Lipa won the Best Pop Award. Panic! At the discotheque, he won the prize for the best alternative and presented "High Hopes". Marshmello, winner of the Best Electronic System Award, closed the show amid giant inflatable Marshmello heads.
