Nire won the Conway Cup for the first time for the first time at Fraher Field last night when she came in the second half to eliminate Kilrossanty.

The men of Ballymacarbry, however, had a late fright, Pa Cunningham's shot through the face of the goal in the fifth minute of the extra time.

In a tense final, The Nire scored six unanswered points either side of the break and kept aimless Kilrossanty for 30 minutes.

Rear winger Darren Guiry was named man of the match while Thomas O & Gorman and Conor Gleeson also played for the winners.

Shane Walsh scored the opening scoring for The Nire in the sixth minute, before former Tipperary midfielder, Martin Dunne, was on target for green and gold.

Paul Whyte beat Kilrossanty from a free goal before Dunne then badisted his midfield partner, Tommy Prendergast.

A run of Donie Fitzgerald created a point from Pa Cunningham in 29 minutes while Emmet Doherty's team at Killrossanty added three points.

But Darren Guiry scored extra time while The Nire led 0-5 to 0-3 at the break.

Jamie Barron and Gleeson then fixed the problem within nine minutes of restarting.

And Guiry scored two crucial points to give The Nire a lead not to give up.

Shane Ryan added one before his injury, then Whyte scored the first point of Kilrossanty in the second period, in the 56th minute.

The underdogs did not find the necessary goal to end 29 years of waiting for the county's glory, while Nire midfielder, Tholom Guiry, was sent off to death.
