IF YOU ARE NOT A BUFFER CAMERA then you probably do not want to force 800 pounds for the Huawei P20 Pro triple-lens. Fortunately, the standard P20 model, which does not let the MI6 spy on you with a resolution of 40MP, is "just" 600.
For this price, you will have a Hisilicon Kirin 970 octa-core processor running at a maximum of 2 , 4 GHz, 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage. Unfortunately, the storage is not expandable by means of microUSB. The battery is at a size of 3400mAh.
The 5.8-inch 228 x 2280 LCD is edge-to-edge, extending to the top of the device. Unfortunately, this creates fear of everyone's playground – the notch. On the Huawei P20, however, this notch is very, very thin. Huawei has opted for a circular secondary speaker, which means that the space is not occupied by a long bar.
But, Jack could not get to the party, so you'll find a pair of USB-C earbuds in the box.
One of the most advertised features of the P20 is the dual-Leica lens system on the back of the phone. As can be expected, there is a bit of hump, but it's not a big deal because it's the price to pay for a camera like that.
The selfie camera has a resolution of 24MP, while the RGB sensor on the back is 12MP and is backed by a 20MP monochrome lens. The latter can be used to take detailed photos in black and white or to increase the perception of depth beyond the level of cyclops when taking color photographs.
Design
The best word for describe the Huawei P20 is … you opt for the black model. The front of the phone is almost completely flat except for the slight bezel around the home button. Sorry, the fake-m button.
Despite the fact that there are no moving parts on the front of the phone, the Huawei P20 has only an IP53 rating, which means you'll be fine in the rain or maybe on the beach, but do not drop your phone in the swamp when you beat your Candy Crush high score.
The phone's side is constructed of matte black aluminum that contrasts nicely with the brilliance of the glbad to keep the phone stylish, but not boring. The power and volume knobs are on the side, and the power button has a slight groove in the center for you to distinguish between the two.
As mentioned, the display is slightly bitten by the notch, but this is minimal, probably taking up only 25 percent of the phone's width. When compared to other phones, such as the Asus ZenFone 5, it is a blessing. There is an option to hide the notch in the settings, although you lose some of your screen.
Display
The 5.8-inch screen on the Huawei P20 is bright, and the colors are good. It's FHD + with about 429ppi. This is not AMOLED or even OLED, which is a bit disappointing considering the price tag, but that is what it is, and it is not not bad.
The screen covers approximately 80% in front of the phone because there is still space for the home button and the USB-C connector.
Performance and battery life
The phone is as responsive as you think, really. Connectivity on the phone is good with regard to WiFi and Bluetooth, so stick to a high speed internet adventure!
The fingerprint reader is incredibly fast. You'll have to give him the slightest tap with a finger written (Huawei's words, not ours) to unlock the phone. Likewise, the P20's facial scanning function works almost instantly and does not seem to have any problem recognizing us when we wear glbades.
We tested some Geekbench 4 tests, and the CPU test revealed that the P20 was between the Huawei P10 Plus and the P20 Pro working with a single core, and between the Galaxy Note 8 and the Huawei Mate 10 Pro on multi-core testing.
The result of the math test was 8549, which is higher than the Mate 10 Pro but just below a Galaxy S8 +. We put the Huawei P20 to the test with some CSR Racing 2 and a pinch of Real Racing 3 but the 12-core processor exploded across both games as they were nothing. So much for my benefit of lag Clash Royale .
Just to check, we tortured the phone using GFXBench GL, which is a gaming reference app that measures the phone's FPS when running different games. We forced GFXBench to run in full screen mode to get the most accurate results possible.
When testing off-screen Manhattan 3.1 "1080p, the phone was actually lacking memory. He supported the tessellation tests well but dropped to around 16fps for all high level tests. This has been quite disappointing, as it means you will not be able to play graphics-hungry games on the P20. You will be fine with Lemmings lemming.
The battery seems to last a reasonable time. It has a capacity of 3,400 mAh and has dropped only 32% in four hours of heavy use when we were testing the phone. There are a number of tips for optimizing the battery in the Phone Manager application, and the Ultra Battery Saver mode allows you to continue for seven days with a full charge, but you will limit to calling and sending SMS.
basically has a Nokia brick with a nice screen.
Software
The Huawei P20 does not come happily with a lot of things in terms of bloatware. Integrated in EMUI, you will find a standard Phone Manager application with a RAM cleaner and battery optimization. There's also a ton of things you'll need from a Huawei ID, including AppGallery, a second app store that occasionally offers free gifts and content, like an ever present Santa Claus. [19659002] You also have Huawei's music, video and cloud services, although Google's equivalents are all pre-installed anyway, so we recommend you stick with them. What you will get, however, is HiCare, which is Huawei's advice and support application. This gives you access to free customer support, early access to new versions of EMUI and to the nearest Huawei approved store locations.
If you want to change the default appearance of EMUI, you can use the Themes application that comes with the phone. This allows you to download application and screen packs, both fixed and animated, by clicking a button. Some of them are really beautiful, although others are a bit more questionable.
There is, as far as INQ can say, a single useless application that comes into the box – Mirror. All it does is show you your face using the secondary camera and apply a nice little telescope on the edge. If you blow on the microphone, you can apply a condensation effect on the glbad and draw on it, leaving you with beautiful images like this one.
If you do not want to sit down and think about anything, why not scroll down the backup application, allowing you to make a copy of everything your phone via HiSuite on a PC. This is very simple and certainly recommended for anyone who thinks that basically their phone wants to be a porpoise.
Do not do drugs, children.
Sound
The Huawei P20 has only one speaker, so if you cover the lower right corner of the phone, you will lose all sound. The speaker is clear and reasonably loud, but it's not really special. We compared it to the Goliath speaker of the Asus ZenFone 5, and it was as if the ZenFone had taken a cloth soaked in chloroform and had it embedded in the P20's throat. .
Nevertheless, the sound is good enough for media consumption at any volume. Do not expect to replace the club's audio system with P20s sometime in the future.
Camera
Not surprisingly, the camera is probably one of the selling points of this phone. In the £ 600 package, you'll get two Leica Summilux lenses – 12 and 20MP – and a 24MP selfie camera.
The camera application has many built-in features, such as a slow-motion camera capable of capturing 960fps (32x slower than normal, for those who are wondering ). Unfortunately, it's not very good for moving objects, like this 50-cent coin we found at the office.
You can take 4K and FHD + videos at 30fps. fall into 1080p, but the real star of the camera application, regardless of the optimized AI feature built into EMUI, is the portrait mode.
The portrait mode is capable of producing professional portrait portraits using both lenses together with one to the other to make the background blurry while leaving the subject neat. Take this scruffy human being that we found on the street, for example.
There is absolutely no doubt that this is a great photo, and the camera works well in many other situations. The quality of the low light image is good, and I can find very little flaw with this camera.
Even if you decide not to opt for the P20 Pro, you will still have a great camera with the P20. For the more savvy, the P20 offers a Pro mode when you can adjust the ISO, white balance and more, but it might be worth spending a little more to get the P20 Pro for this juicy 40MP telephoto lens.
In Brief
The Huawei P20 is a bit lacking in graphics processing, but the camera is amazing, the sound quality is good and you'll have an incredibly beautiful phone to boot (though INQ disclaims any liability for damage caused to your Huawei P20 by your feet). It will certainly give rival companies something to think about when it comes to prices. Well done, Huawei. μ
