Ireland Women have completed their pre-season matches for the ICC Women's World T20 with a convincing victory over Sri Lanka.
After winning the draw, captain Laura Delany chose to play first. Sri Lanka has started well, from 7 to 40-1.
However, a wicket of Isobel Joyce with the first ball of the eighth of end-game caused a collapse, while the Irish bowlers ran against their opponent, claiming nine wickets for only 45 points in 11.1.
Celeste Raack, the Australian leg player who was playing her second game for Ireland, won two wickets, while Lara Maritz, the Toyota Super 3 's player of the year, imposed herself 3 -1 on eight balls.
With just 86 points, Ireland lost early opening goal, Cecelia Joyce, but Clare Shillington and Gaby Lewis stabilized the innings with a 43-point stand on just under six goals.
Shillington, the tournament player at the T20 World Trials Tournament in July, determinedly beat seven limits on a 50-run run. Its 41 * partnership with Delany (15 *) allowed Girls in Green to pursue the goal in just 13.2 points.
Aaron Hamilton's team will return to Guyana tomorrow to prepare for their first group stage game against Australia on Sunday.
