James McClean hits out at the FA, claiming abuse is overlooked because he is an Irish Catholic

James McClean has been an Irish Catholic.

It comes after the FA revealed they are investigating the Derryman's Instagram post that branded some football fans as "uneducated cavemen".

The winger took to the social media over the weekend after taking part of the crowd following his decision to play on his playing shirt during Stoke City's match with Middlesbrough in the Championship.

Both Stoke and the McClean has responded to this post.

McClean has had a history of protesting with Derry where 13 civilian protesters were shot dead by British soldiers in 1972.

He quoted Bobby Sands, a renowned IRA martyr, before launching another impbadioned defense of his stance on Sunday evening.

"They have nothing in their whole arsenal that can break the spirit of one Irishman who does not want to be broken," his Instagram post started.

He added: "Your abuse, your throwing things, your booing, do your worst .. to the home fans that are actually educated and support me, thank you.

"To the section of the booth of the Boothen End booth that want to sing their anti-Irish song each game and call me to Fenian this and that .. I am a PROUD FENIAN no c @ # t will ever change that, so sing away. "
