There is a reason why the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 series has long been the computer of choice for many businessmen and IT buyers.
They are sturdy, well powered and are not the most flashed laptops.
Given this success, it is not surprising that Lenovo has not tried to reinvent the wheel with the latest version, the ThinkPad X1 Carbon.
It builds on the solid foundation of its predecessor
DESIGN
The first thing you notice when you unpack the X1 Carbon is the weight.
At 1.13kg, it feels lightweight, built from carbon fiber and magnesium. And it looks like too, with only 15.95mm of thickness.
But that does not mean that it's a weak device. According to Lenovo, it has pbaded a dozen standard military durability tests – MIL-STD-810.
The smooth traditional black exterior remains the same, giving the notebook a superior feel and look.
The gloss and color options offered by many modern laptops, but there is nothing wrong with the simple style of the ThinkPad X1.
For security, a built-in Match on Chip fingerprint reader contains all the data on the drive.
There is also an IR camera for facial recognition on some models.
The ThinkShutter is a new addition – an intelligent sliding lens cap for the 720p HD webcam (on devices without the IR camera) that allows you to protect yourself from hackers' spying .
Beside the camera are two far-field microphones that should be able to pick up your voice from a distance – convenient for voice recognition or control of the Cortana Virtual Assistant window.
In terms of ports, there is a lot to choose from – two USB 3.0, two Thunderbolt 3 jacks, a headphone and microphone combo jack and a 4-in-1 micro SD card reader, as well as a Port HDMI and a docking connector
The keyboard is as well configured, responsive and comfortable to use as you now expect from the X1 range.
There is the usual TrackPoint buried in the middle of the keyboard and a touchpad of 3.9 x 2.2 inches
DISPLAY
There are a number of variations of the 14 "screen on the X1, but everything is good if not excellent.
The excellent WQHD option, with a resolution of 2560×1440 and anti-glare.
At 300 nits, the brightness brings out the image of the 16: 9 screen and with great clarity.
And with a viewing angle of 170 °, the images and video look good in most directions.
There is also a respectable standard option with a 1920×1080 Full HD display and a high-end WQHD 2560×1440 Dynamic Range Range version with Dolby Vision that we have not had the opportunity to meet, but that would be among the best on the market
INSIDE
as can be expected with a high-end laptop e, well fed.
The processor has been upgraded to an 8th-generation Intel Core i7 in the most upscale machines.
This combined with 16GB of RAM means that most tasks will be handled easily – although perhaps not VR / AR as the Windows 10 mixed reality portal suggests that the processor might be struggling
The X1 Carbon comes with between 128GB and 1TB of SSD. The laptop is powered by a 57Wh 3 cell battery which, under normal conditions of use and use, should give you enough power for a good day of work and even later.
The device also supports fast charging. 0-80 percent in just 60 minutes.
The audio installation is pbadable but not surprising. The speakers produce a lot of sound, but the quality is not wonderful.
Listening with a headset will definitely be a better option.
CONCLUSION
In summary, then, the X1 Carbon offers just about everything a professional user may need.

Other machines that can offer similar type specifications, such as the Dell XPS 13, MacBook Pro Series and Microsoft Surface Book 2.
But buyers of the X1 Carbon are unlikely to be disappointed.
