Maurizio Sarri did not ask Chelsea's board of directors about a transfer fund for January, preferring to focus on improving a team he considers already "competitive".
Sarri believes that Chelsea's move to future titles will be realized by the Blues' defensive approach, but the former Napoli manager pointed out that this did not automatically mean a decline in the transfer market for the January signings.
Taskmaster's Blues leader admitted he was confident that getting into the transfer market could sometimes be an unnecessary reflex reaction.
When asked if he knew if there would be money to spend in January, Sarri said, "No, I have not asked my club for anything yet. For now, I think we can stay with these players, we are competitive.
"Maybe not for the top, but we have to try to get near the top.
"I only have to think that I have to help these players improve. It's too easy to go to the market for every problem.
"I think we need to improve, and we need to improve with these players because they can improve. I think I have to think about improving my players, it's my job, I think.
"The market is there, I can tell the club my opinion, what I think: but my job is to try to improve my players."
The Blues will host the Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge in the league on Sunday, with Eden Hazard likely to play an important role in his recovery from a back problem.
Sarri challenged Chelsea to be more disciplined, especially during the ball hunt at the top of the ball.
"We have to improve by covering the ball in the other half," said Sarri. "We have to support in half of the opponent, we have to cover the lost ball immediately.

Sarri has named Gary Cahill captain of his official Blues club, which could stabilize the future of former England defender Stamford Bridge.

Cahill had already admitted that he might have to leave West London to go to football as a first regular team, but moving Sarri could change all that.
"The captain is Cahill, and if he's not on the pitch, it's (Cesar) Azpilicueta," said Sarri.
"Our captain is Cahill. Because Cahill was captain last season and I talked to his buddies, everyone told me that he was really a very good captain. "

Sarri also ruled out the possibility of English midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek being loaned in the January window.

The 22-year-old played on the bench during the league's 4-0 win at Burnley, however, and now, Sarri has shown greater confidence in him by insisting that he wanted to keep it handy.
