MMA star Conor McGregor has avoided jail and a record criminal after pleading guilty to disorderly conduct at a UFC event in New York earlier this year.
He could now be ready to return to action later this year, with his manager Audi Attar saying that McGregor "would like to fight" and discussions resume with the UFC. McGregor (30) had been charged with a number of offenses, including a criminal mischief charge and a charge of badault.
However, at the Brooklyn Criminal Court yesterday, the prosecutor said that a plea agreement had been reached. Sentenced to criminal charges against McGregor and his co-accused, his 25-year-old fighting partner MMA Cian Cowley, being reduced to disorderly conduct.
The two men escaped a criminal conviction, the charge being considered a violation of New York state law.
As part of the plea agreement, McGregor is scheduled to undergo five days of community service to be performed in New York, as well as between one and three clbades of anger management. Three orders of protection were also issued against McGregor.
The court ruled that he could not come into contact, alone or through the intermediary of a third party, with UFC fighters Raymond Borg and Michael Chiesa and Jason Leadbetter until July 25, 2020.
Cowley was ordered to perform three days of community service, between one and three clbades of anger management and obeying a protection order.
McGregor was also sentenced by Judge Raymond Rodriguez to pay restitution for damages to a bus during the scrum at Barclays Center. The two men went out of court after pleading guilty to disorderly conduct, and they accepted a conditional discharge that they keep the peace for a year.
Speaking outside the courthouse, McGregor said: DA and the judge for allowing me to move forward, I want to tell my friends, my family and my fans , Thank you for your support. "
