A YouTube channel called ‘TechConfigurations’ has just target=”_blank” rel=”noopener”>published a rather interesting new smartphone concept design, the so-called Motorola Moto Infinity. This smartphone is completely fictional, which is worth noting, this is not a leak or anything of the sort. Now, this concept design looks really sleek, and some people would even say unrealistic. The phone’s bezels are thinner than on any other smartphone out there (the designer says that it has a 99-percent screen-to-body ratio), while the device comes with a flippable camera, which acts as both the device’s front and rear-facing camera. We’ve already seen such a camera implementation on some devices, and the designer even lists some camera specs that he envisioned for the device. According to the designer, this concept hone has a 12-megapixel wide-angle camera, which comes with both OIS and PDAF, while it supports 4K video recording at 60FPS. Interestingly enough, this phone has two additional cameras on the back, which are not movable in any way. So, the phone essentially has three cameras overall, and three rear-facing cameras at the same time.
The other two cameras on the back of this phone are 16 and 20-megapixel cameras, the 16-megapixel camera is the device’s main shooter, while the 20-megapixel unit acts as a telephoto camera for lossless zoom and portrait mode effect. Now, considering that this phone is envisioned to have a 99-percent screen-to-body ratio, its bezels are almost non-existent, it has razor thin bezels above and below the display, and those bezels are almost non-existent, same goes for its side. The designer envisioned a 6.3-inch QHD AMOLED display with HDR10 support for this phone, and that display has an aspect ratio of 18:9. All the physical keys are located on the right-hand side of this phone, its power / lock, volume up and volume down buttons. The device seems to be made out of metal and glbad, while the company’s logo is placed on the back of the phone. You will notice that a fingerprint scanner is not located on the back of this phone, that’s because it’s placed under the display. On the bottom of the phone lies a Type-C USB port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. On top of everything, this concept phone also has front-facing stereo speakers, two of them. The unreleased Snapdragon 855 (which will probably be called the Snapdragon 8150) is also included in this phone, along with a 4,000mAh battery. Aside from that, 4GB, 6GB, and 8GB RAM variants have been envisioned for this phone, along with 128GB and 512GB of storage.
Background: This phone will never become a reality, but similar designs may down the line, who knows. Creating such a smartphone at this time is not possible, even though we’ve already seen some of its elements in other devices. It will be interesting to see what is Motorola preparing for us in 2019, but the company is expected to adopt extremely thin bezels and noticeably thinner notches that we’ve seen thus far.
Impact: The Motorola Moto Infinity concept does show us a rather interesting way to implement cameras in a device, while it also shows off an almost completely bezel-less display which we probably won’t see anytime soon. Some OEMs have managed to trim down bezels quite a bit, OEMs like Samsung and OPPO with its Galaxy Note 9 and Find X devices, respectively, but not a single OEM has come close to a 99-percent screen-to-body ratio. In any case, this device would surely be hard to grip properly, as its build materials are slippery, and bezels are almost non-existent, so that could be a problem in real life, but we’re only guessing, of course.
