The weather was not good for those who were on the way to Lake Christine Fire in Colorado, but legendary musician Neil Diamond reached out to thank the firefighters at a surprise concert Saturday.
Diamond played for a hundred firefighters and rescue workers, many of whom came to the area specifically to fight fire, at a town hall on Saturday. He took the stage with just an acoustic guitar and a microphone stand.
"I want to take you home, I want to give you a kiss, I want to make a dinner for you, and I just want to say thank you people from this region for coming and this city n & # I have not been so happy since … I do not know, "Diamond told crews before his performance," I've been here for 20 years and you've made everyone happier, the heaviness of our hearts is gone and we know that the cavalry is there and we thank each and every one of you for making this trip.
Firefighters recently fired Christine Lake on their behalf. The fire, which burned over 12,500 acres, is now contained at 48%.
The United States Forest Service also says that it expects the fire to be fully contained by August 2nd.
The singer "Sweet Caroline" lives in the area of Basalt, Colorado, where the fire still burns after July 3rd.
Basalt is located in a popular ski area, a few miles from Snowmbad and less than 20 miles northwest of Aspen.
Diamond, 77, announced that he was retiring in January after being diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. He is a member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He had 22 platinum albums (1 million sales) in the United States, including live records and biggest hits.
