Roaring Lion bravely fought to beat his old rival Saxon Warrior in the Sandown Coral-Eclipse.
The two three-year trios had Group 1 of 10 minutes and no quarter was given closing stages. Hawkbill raced Forest Ranger, but older horses had no response to the younger generation that dominated the finish.
Roaring Lion (7-4 favorite), coached by John Gosden, pbaded the pole in front of a neck under Oisin Murphy's charge of Aidan O 'Brien ridden by his son, Donnacha.
